Wetsuits reworked

Ideation and inspiration. Below is my notebook of some initial sketches.

Some of the questions I had to ask were how neoprene might be repurposed to utilize its water-proof and durable qualities, and how I could design a product with as little excess (waste) fabric as possible.

The bucket hat

Successfully surf-tested at the spot Dreamies in Isla Vista.

I enjoyed the added style points out in the lineup, however, I do not think the hat would be the best product to create out of old wetsuits. The shape of the hat pattern was cut in a way that resulted in a lot of extra fabric scraps, which I plan to recycle, but ideally I would like to make use of as much as the wetsuit as possible.

The pencil pouch

A foldable carrier fit for backpacks and bags. This design made better use of the form of the wetsuit and resulted in fewer scraps!

The laptop sleeve

This fits my laptop perfectly and slides into my backpack as an extra layer of protection for when I am going from place to place! This design was simpler and easier to sew. While it took a large quantity of neoprene to make the sleeve sides, if one has large scraps of neoprene, they can also be sewn together and utilized for the pattern.

The cardholder

A design that is similar to the laptop sleeve yet is sewn differently. It fits several cards and can be created with a minimal amount of neoprene!
